The Historic Resources of Osceola, Arkansas was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Within this designation are fourteen individual buildings and a district comprised of six buildings on the south side of the 200 block of West Hale Avenue and the Mississippi County Courthouse.
The City of Osceola established the Osceola Historic District and its related commission in 1998. The Commission was created of the essence to ensure the preservation of historic buildings related to the city of Osceola, Arkansas.
The district was created upon the boundaries of the Hale Avenue Historic District as listed on the National Register of Historic Places. However, in 2004, the National Register expanded the boundaries to include additional historic resources in downtown Osceola. The expansion received strong affirmative recommendations from both the Osceola Planning Commission and the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.
